December 12: Minneapolis - Contract for Deed or Lease? Defending Evictions Based on Confusing Hybrid Agreements

Attorneys helping defendants in eviction actions have been running into hybrid documents that appear to be contracts for deed but that are being construed as leases for eviction purposes. This training will help attorneys understand the differences between evictions under contracts for deed and under leases, spot the differences between the two, and identify defenses against eviction.
Topics:
  • Contracts for deed as avoidance of rental regulations;
  • predatory lending;
  •  equity;
  • down payment theft;
  • post-cancellation evictions;
  • quitclaim deeds;
  • defenses; and
  • avoiding eviction.
