November 12: Denver - A Discussion of Generational Differences and Their Impact on Balanced Legal Careers #MCLE

The millennial generation, also known as “Gen Y,” is the largest generation in American history and is already having an impact on the practice of law, particularly in the areas of work/life balance, flexibility, and use of technology. Millennials value work-life balance more than other generations, and when selecting an employer, they rate factors such as an environment supportive of personal and family commitments and control over their work schedules above factors such as greater promotional opportunities, more intellectually challenging work, and even increased compensation.
This program will focus on how the practice of law is changing and is likely to change further in response to the values of Millennials, and what law firms and other legal employers can do to get ahead of those changes.
It will also cover how different generations view key elements of the practice of law, how those perspectives can clash, and strategies for harmonizing different generational perspectives and belief systems. Successfully addressing generational issues in a law firm can lead to a number of benefits, including increased cooperation,
collegiality, and productivity, as well as an improved law firm culture.
The event will include a presentation followed by a lively discussion focused on problem-solving in this area and creating new and innovative approaches and solutions.
