Title:
Shift Happens: Surviving the Law Profession
Description:

February 14: Navigating Intercultural Competency & Well-Being in Times of Change

We are living in a country and world that increasingly can be characterized as a V.U.C.A.–volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Since the beginning of this century, we have seemingly been in a period of turmoil and trauma. Political uncertainty, controversial court decisions, and social/cultural change have created divisions between workplaces, communities, neighbors, families, and lawyers. As attorneys, not only are we spectators of these changes as citizens, but we are also important protagonists in the system that some people see as the source of many of these problems.
Given this challenge, how do we lead as lawyers and facilitate difficult conversations with people different from us so that we can thrive both as lawyers and as human beings? This program will explore two concepts that will assist us in our journey: intercultural competency which helps to manage interpersonal relationships with those different from us, and what it means to flourish as a lawyer through the lens of well-being. We will only reach our fullest potential by successfully navigating both concepts.
