May 17: A Handy Primer on Drafting and Updating Employee Handbooks

A properly drafted and updated employee handbook not only states the terms, conditions, and expectations of employment, but can also help employers defend against claims of discrimination, harassment, breach of contract, wrongful termination, and other employment law claims. Employers who conduct business in multiple jurisdictions and industries must be diligent in making sure that employment policies are compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
This webinar will give attendees a greater understanding of the purpose of an employee handbook, provide tips to effectively draft employee handbooks and best practices to monitor changes in the law which necessitate handbook revisions.

May 9+17: Online Legal Research and Resources

The many ways technology can aid attorneys in locating the best and most on point statutes, caselaw, secondary materials and all relevant materials can be overwhelming. The comments to the model rules of professional conduct governing attorneys state that “to maintain competency a lawyer should keep abreast…[of] the benefits and risks associated with relevant technology.” The goal of this course is to assist attorneys in navigating online legal research, so they feel more confident and competent when researching subjects important to their work. This CLE is an interactive scenario-based course that considers the daily tasks that attendees may be required to perform.

June 6+7: The Legacy of Industrywide Deadly Misconduct

At least three times in the past hundred years, entire American industries have united in a coordinated and sustained effort to advance their financial interests by knowingly promoting products that have deadly consequences for enormous numbers of individuals exposed to them. The three industries involved in these activities have been the asbestos manufacturers, the tobacco sellers and the opioid purveyors.
There have been striking parallels both in their conduct and the inadequate societal response to the harm done. Accordingly, this year’s Clifford Symposium will explore:
  • The historical legacy of these events
  • The ethical questions raised by the legal representation offered the industries
  • The behavior of those who enabled widespread harm
  • The American industries that appear to be following the same deadly roadmap
  • The procedures we might adopt to address these activities.

In this CLE session, we're not just offering tips; we're revolutionizing your intake process. From conflict checks to ensuring prompt retainer payments, every step in the intake process is an opportunity to elevate your practice.
