In commemoration of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), The Advocates For Human Rights will be presenting No One Left Behind: Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All.
In this CLE, The Advocates will be joined by Dan Supalla—an attorney with Nilan Johnson Lewis who has represented LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers pro bono—and his former client from Uganda whose asylum claim was recently approved to discuss the intersection of LGBTIQ+ human rights and asylum law.
The CLE will cover the place of LGBTIQ+ human rights in international human rights law, global trends that drive LGBTIQ+ people to seek asylum outside of their home countries, the particular experiences and difficulties of being LGBTIQ+ in the U.S. asylum system, and best practices for lawyers interested in representing LGBTIQ+ asylum clients.
