April 15: Health Law and the Coronavirus: What Attorneys at the Front Line of the Pandemic Need to Know

The novel coronavirus presents unprecedented challenges for health care companies. Hospitals and other health care providers are facing a vast array of challenges, from shortages of beds, respirators, and protective gear to uncertainty around reimbursement for testing and treatment to a rise in the use of telemedicine. These challenges are being met by organizations that already faced complex regulatory regimes, changing payment systems, hurdles in adopting new technologies, and myriad compliance risks.
In response to the pandemic, state and federal regulators have temporarily waived various rules, such as those governing privacy, licensing, and provider location. They have also adjusted coverage and payment requirements to make telehealth more accessible and alleviate some of the financial uncertainty providers face during the crisis. This webinar is designed to help attorneys representing health care providers understand how to adjust their existing policies and practices under these new waivers. It will also provide best practices for staying compliant and meeting new challenges introduced by the pandemic.
Educational Objectives
  • Latest federal and state coronavirus responses affecting health care providers.
  • HHS’ Limited Waiver of HIPAA Sanctions and best practices to ensure compliance with the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule during the pandemic.
  • Key considerations for providers as state and federal regulators make telehealth more accessible to patients.
  • How 1135 waivers are being used to give providers more flexibility as they respond to Covid-19, including the currently existing 1135 waivers and considerations in deciding whether to request an individual waiver.
  • Details about the CARES Act’s $100 billion fund for diagnosing, testing, and caring for coronavirus patients, including how to request funds and what qualifies.
