February 12: 15 Things I Wish I’d Learned in Law School

Law school teaches us how to think like lawyers — but not always how to be lawyers. The real-world challenges of practice often fall outside the casebooks: managing difficult clients, navigating ethical pitfalls, billing effectively, and maintaining your sanity in the process.

Join attorney Jordan Turk for a candid and practical session exploring the lessons every lawyer wishes they’d learned sooner. Drawing from years in the trenches of family law and legal tech, Jordan shares the insights, mistakes, and strategies that help attorneys build sustainable, ethical, and efficient practices.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ethical pitfalls to avoid — the traps law school never warned you about
  • Money matters — practical billing and collection tips
  • Managing clients (and their cases) with professionalism and respect
  • Tech and time — using modern tools to reclaim your day

Featured Presenter

Jordan Turk, Attorney

Jordan is a practicing attorney in Texas and the Director of Attorney Education and Development at Smokeball. Her family law background includes complex property division, contentious custody matters, appeals, and prenuptial agreements. She is also passionate about legal technology and its power to transform law firm operations.

She holds a B.A. in Classics, History, and Religious Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law. After several years in high-asset family law practice, her frustration with inefficient workflows led her to the world of legal tech — and ultimately to Smokeball.

Jordan also hosts Hacking Law Firm Success, where she interviews law firm founders about growth, scaling, and firm management philosophies.
