Jan 25/ Chicago, IL - Government Benefits for Persons with Disabilities

The presentation will provide advocates with up to date information on government benefits such as Medicaid, SSI & SSDI, DORS, food stamps, and Section 8. These programs can be used to enhance the collaboration of financing of services. This presentation will discuss three categories of government benefits:

-Government benefits not based on financial need
-Programs based on financial need
-Fee for service programs

* Theresa M. Varnet is a licensed attorney who has been practicing law for twenty-one (21) years; Mrs. Varnet is also a former teacher and school social worker. Her practice has focused predominately in the area of special needs and elder law. Terrie has been an advocate for persons with disabilities for over 40 years. In addition to being a certified teacher, licensed social worker and graduate of the DePaul University College of Law, she is the parent of an adult daughter with a disability. Her experiences include work in the area of in-service training of families, special educators and other professionals. She specializes in probate and estate planning for people with disabilities.
