Agenda Items Include:
- LGBTQ+ Legal Clinic Procedures Advising with Authenticity – Anti-Racism and Trans Competency
- Trauma-Informed Interview Skills – Taking Care of Your Client and Yourself
- Identity Document Changes
- Housing Rights and the Unsheltered System
- Basics of LGBTQ+ Family Law and Survivor Rights
This training will be geared toward attorneys who would like to join QLaw Foundation’s roster of attorneys who volunteer at our LGBTQ+ Legal Clinics. Current LGBTQ+ Legal Clinic volunteers will learn helpful legal and clinic procedure updates. BUT – anyone who is interested in developing anti-racist client interviewing skills, learning about trauma-informed legal services, or learning about some LGBTQ+ law basics is welcome. You do not need to be an attorney to attend.
How Does LGBTQ+ Legal Clinic Volunteering Work?
All legal clinics happen by phone, so you can talk to clients wherever you are, and our clinic assistant and attorneys have a zoom room for in-clinic support. Volunteer attorneys are generally scheduled for one or two 90 minute clinics per quarter, however, we work around your availability with no minimum. Any WA-licensed attorney can be an LGBTQ+ Legal Clinic volunteer, whether your practice area is corporate transactions or criminal defense. We provide a schedule with legal issues ahead of the clinic so you know what to expect, and when we can, we send you a legal memo ahead of time. Basically, we provide as much structure as possible for you, so that you can focus on providing the affirming and caring support that our LGBTQ+ Legal Clinic is known for.
