Oct 15-17/Brooklyn, NY - Empire City Invitational Mock Trial

On October 15th, 16th and 17th of this year, the Empire Mock Trial Association, Inc. ( http://www.empiremocktrial.org )  is hosting the fourth annual Empire City Invitational. Founded in 2007, the Empire is the only mock trial event in U.S. history to draw schools from across four continents. This year, we're hosting teams from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Korea, the United Kingdom and eighteen U.S. states. In order for the Empire to be possible, we need local attorneys to serve as judges at the event.

CLE Credit.
Attorneys can earn a maximum of three CLE credits, in the category of skills, for judging at the Empire. You earn three credits whether you judge one round or all four rounds of competition. Credits are generously provided courtesy of the law firm O'Melveny & Myers.
Location. The tournament will take place at the United States District Courthouse for the Eastern District of New York, located at 225 Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn.
Schedule The tournament consists of four rounds and a championship round: one on Friday, October 15th, two on Saturday, October 16th and one on Sunday, October 17th. The championship round will be held at the conclusion of the tournament on October 17th. Round times can be found on the "Apply now" portion of the website. Rounds last approximately two and a half hours. Judges are welcome to judge multiple rounds but are certainly not required to do so.
Orientation. Immediately preceding each round, a presentation will be given explaining the judges' responsibilities and the criteria that is used to score the competitors. Judges should report to the courthouse approximately one hour before the round they are scheduled to judge for orientation.
Preparation. Besides a quick read of the relevant case documents (stipulations, case summary, etc.), little preparation is required. While we can provide the case packet for attorneys to read, we highly recommend judges not read the entire case file prior to the competition.
Complimentary Meals. We'll provide breakfast and/or lunch for you as a token of our appreciation.
Networking Opportunity. Last year, nearly 150 attorneys volunteered at the Empire. It will undoubtedly be a terrific opportunity to meet and network with other attorneys from the New York area.
Bring a Friend. If you have a colleague in the legal profession that is interested in judging, please encourage them to register. If you note their name and contact information on the application, we can make sure you judge together.
