April 16: Minneapolis - Mass Incarceration: Explaining Dramatic Differences in State Incarceration Rates #MCLE

Incarceration rates in the United States rose 500% from the late 1970s through the 2000s. Attention to overall increases, however, masks a wide range of patterns of incarceration across states. While some states have seen dramatic growth and recent declines in incarceration, many others have experienced only minor or moderate changes. This panel will discuss research on patterns of incarcerations across states over time with consideration to the implications for contemporary state-level debates on incarceration and sentencing policy.
