Burnout doesn't just wreck your weekends. It shows up in missed deadlines, short tempers, sloppy communication, and the kind of poor judgment that gets you a bar complaint.

Alan Klevan and Wendy Meadows have both lived it. Disgruntled lawyer to gruntled lawyer, and back again more times than either of them would like to admit. September 30: What Every Legal Professional Should Know About Domestic Violence Law in Ohio

This one-hour CLE that equips Ohio attorneys in any practice area with current, practical knowledge of the state's rapidly changing domestic violence law. Domestic violence reaches every attorney — through a client, an employee, a family member, or a friend — so this program is built for general practitioners, not only family-law or criminal specialists.

The hour walks through five recent statutory and constitutional developments — plus one prominent bill Ohio has not passed — and what each requires attorneys to do differently: the felony reclassification of strangulation (R.C. 2903.18); repeat-offender sentencing and the pregnancy enhancement under House Bill 111; the 2025 electronic-tracking statute reaching AirTags and location apps (R.C. 2903.216); the gap between the permanent federal firearms ban on a misdemeanor conviction and Ohio's weapons-disability statute (18 U.S.C. 922 and R.C. 2923.13); the constitutional victim rights of Marsy's Law and their implementation through R.C. Chapter 2930; and Aisha’s Law — the lethality-screening bill passed twice by the House and never enacted — alongside what R.C. 2935.032 actually requires of police today.

Attendees also learn the attorney mandatory-reporter framework (R.C. 2151.421 and R.C. 5101.61) and how to read a protection order for enforceability — including the firearms-surrender and anti-electronic-monitoring language that must be requested explicitly or the protection fails. Each participant receives a statutory reference handbook keyed to the Ohio Revised Code.
