October 22: Affordable Care Act Retrenchment

Case Western Reserve University School of Law logo The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) is poised to make the largest cuts in federal support for health insurance coverage in United States history. Yet this law is both poorly understood and full of uncertainty.

This lecture will focus on how the OBBBA will undermine the 2010 Affordable Care Act and reduce access to health care, how Congressional Republicans enacted the law, how state officials are struggling to implement the law, and what the law means for the future of the safety net.

It draws on a series of in depth interviews with 34 state government officials, health care nonprofit officials, for profit lobbyists, representatives of health care industry groups, and other health care experts.

  • Understand how the OBBBA retrenches the Affordable Care Act and reduces access to health care.
  • Learn how Congressional Republicans enacted the OBBBA and how state officials are implementing it.
  • Examine what the OBBBA means for the future of the health care safety net.
  • Review insights from interviews with state officials, nonprofit leaders, lobbyists, and health care experts.
