November 17: Seattle - Guardianships #MCLE

When one or both parents have passed away there is frequently a need to obtain some custodial rights for any children and the right to manage any assets the children might inherit. This CLE will address the positive, negatives and/or roadblocks to selecting Title 26 non-parental custody or Title 11 guardianship as the legal vehicle to establish parental rights and manage the child’s financial resources.

October 20: Seattle - Parenting Plans and the Role of Reunification Therapy #MCLE

This session will provide an overview of the statutes, legislative policy, and case law that govern the court’s determination of what constitutes parental alienation. We will examine how parenting evaluators, GALs, counselors, and “reunification therapists” are used in developing a parenting plan that addresses alienating behaviors. In particular, the role of reunification therapy will be discussed with respect to creating such parenting plans.

August 12: Seattle - The Importance of Financial Analysis in Dissolution Asset Division

Too often, family law attorneys give short shrift to the financial details of assets when preparing for ultimate division of their clients’ assets mediation/trial, such as not considering whether a particular asset is after tax (e.g. checking account) or pretax (e.g. 401(k)).
