"If you are a patent attorney or agent, it helps to think like an examiner. Sunday, December 15, 2019, is the last day to sign up for the Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP) agent/attorney three-day course on March 17-19, 2020, at the Seattle Public Library.
The training is limited to those who have passed the patent bar, since it will make use of statutes, rules, and guidelines relevant to practicing before the USPTO. Priority will be given to those who have recently passed the patent bar. Our trainers lead this course based on material developed for training our patent examiners and other employees.
The USPTO is applying for CLE credit in Washington for this course.

A recent case from the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Outdry Technologies Corp. v. Geox S.P.A., is used as a vehicle for discussing good practices for writing clear obviousness rejections. This course emphasizes the importance of proper claim construction and a clear articulation of the obviousness rejection including citation of evidence, reasoned explanation and factual findings.

Jan. 9-11: Dallas - USPTO Attorney and Agent Stakeholder Training

Registration is now open to attend the Jan. 9-11 USPTO Attorney and Agent Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP) at the Texas Regional U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Dallas. 
This training, which will make use of statutes, rules, and guidelines relevant to practicing before the USPTO, is limited to those who have passed the patent bar, and priority will be given to those who have recently passed the patent bar. The course is led by USPTO trainers and is based on material developed for training patent examiners and other employees.
STEPP courses are planned throughout the year for attorneys and agents, and also for inventors. Courses are held in person across the country, and some are held virtually. For more information, and to see the schedule of upcoming courses, visit the STEPP page of the USPTO website.
