July 30: Washington’s General Rule 37: Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Bias in Jury Selection

Please join us for a look at Washington State’s General Rule 37, adopted "to eliminate the unfair exclusion of potential jurors based on race or ethnicity." Faculty will discuss persistent bias in jury selection, and how GR 37 goes beyond Batson v. Kentucky, 476 U.S. 79 (1986), to address the problem.
