January 24: Legal Ethics in the Cloud

As early as 1995, the American Bar Association recognized the potential risks associated with emerging technology and the associated need for attorneys’ ethical compliance. Since then, the ABA and all United States jurisdictions have provided opinions and updates to the ethical rules to address attorneys' use of cloud technology in legal practice.
Presented by LEAP Legal Software and featuring law firm consultant and technology expert Chris Vaughan, this one-hour continuing legal education seminar will discuss the types of cloud computing, common attorney uses of the cloud (including reasons why attorneys should be embracing cloud technology), due diligence pointers, HIPAA compliance, and ways to minimize risk of user error. As part of our due diligence tips, we will provide a checklist of questions attorneys should consider before utilizing cloud computing platforms.
It’s very likely that you are already using cloud-based platforms in your day-to-day life as well as in your legal practice; our questions will help you to assess whether your current set-up provides the requisite accessibility and flexibility to your firm while simultaneously providing the high level of privacy and security required by your clients.
The program will benefit attorneys in private practice, particularly those tasked with maintaining their law firm’s information technology infrastructure. There is no cost to attend this event. CLE Credit is pending approval.
