Anytime/Web - An Introduction to Open Source Software and Licenses

Open source software is an important part of mainstream software development organizations. As Mark Driver, Gartner Group’s lead analyst for open source, says: “Open source is ubiquitous, it’s unavoidable….having a policy against open source is impractical and places you at a competitive disadvantage.” And yet even as it has become mainstream, open source software is often misunderstood by developers and lawyers alike.
In this webinar, two of the industry’s legal heavyweights, Karen Copenhaver, Partner at Choate Hall & Stewart, and Counsel for the Linux Foundation, and Mark Radcliffe, Partner at DLA Piper, and General Counsel for the Open Source Initiative (OSI) discuss:

  • The history and definition of open source
  • The legal framework related to this type of intellectual property
  • The most popular attribution licenses (BSD, MIT and Apache) and their obligations.

    1. I was told that CLE credit is only available for live webcasts vs. viewing archived/recordings.

    2. Hello Anon! Credit depends on your state. WA gives this recording 1 AV credit; perhaps your state may offer credit in comity?
