Each year millions Americans are sickened, hospitalized, or die as the
result of something they put into their stomach. To reduce this largely
preventable public health problem, President Obama signed the Food
Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law. The FSMA gives the United
State Food & Drug Administration more authority and resources for
food contamination prevention and food inspections. Nonetheless, there
has been increase in foodborne illness because the government has not
taken steps to coordinate the efforts of the agencies that are
responsible for keeping food safe.
