October 20: Supreme Court Review – 2022

The presentation will review some of the major trends and decisions of the U. S. Supreme Court during its tumultuous 2021-22 term — abortion, gun safety, capital punishment, religious rights and more — and preview a few of the key cases on this term's docket.
Speakers:

  • David Schultz is Hamline University Distinguished Professor of Political Science, Legal Studies, and Environmental Studies, and Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of more than 45 books and 200+ articles on American law and politics, including his most recent "The Encyclopedia of the U.S. Supreme Court (2021)" and "The Role of Constitutional Precedent in U.S. Supreme Court Reasoning (2022)."
  • Marshall Tanick is an attorney with the law firm of Meyer Njus Tanick with offices in Minneapolis, St. Paul and St. Louis Park. A perennial “Super Lawyer" and “Top 100" attorney, he was named a Minnesota “Attorney of the Year" in 2019 and two-time “Author of the Year" by the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School and writes and lectures frequently on a variety of legal topics.
