July 13/Portland, OR : The Affordable Care Act On Trial: The Supreme Court Takes a Turn to the Left - Or Does It?

The Supreme Court's Affordable Care Act decision will certainly go down as one of the most momentous decisions of the term and maybe in the Court's recent history.  The majority 5-4 decision upheld the "individual mandate" of the Act based on Congress' power to tax. In doing so, the Court rejected the argument that the Commerce Clause provided the authority to institute the mandate.  Much has been written and said about the decision - jurisprudentially: its meaning and precedential effect and politically: what will happen to the Medicaid provision that was struck down; how Congress will react to the shrunken Commerce Clause and more.  Representative Suzanne Bonamici and Michael Casper will address both questions and lead what undoubtedly will be a robust discussion of this important case.
