February 21-23: Seattle - National Appellate Advocacy Competition (Judging/free CLE)

700 Stewart Street
Seattle
The ABA needs lawyers to judge the National Appellate Advocacy Competition this coming weekend (Feb. 21-23) at the U.S. Courthouse in downtown Seattle. Judges will receive CLE credit.
Volunteers play the role of a circuit court judge on a 3-judge panel, firing questions during an oral argument and rating the competitors, who are law students from around the country.
This year’s case involves two questions. The first examines the difference between “use” and “access” to determine whether an intern violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act when she removed some of her work from the company’s computer files just before resigning her position. The second addresses whether a law student intern qualifies as an “employee” under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is thus entitled to compensation.
