This program will address the role of international election observer, political rights under Venezuelan law, and the international human rights principles of Article 25 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, a treaty to which both Venezuela and the U.S. are parties. The speaker, Martha Schmidt, was one of 50 international election observers (acompaƱantes) from three missions who travelled to Venezuela in December 2013 for the municipal, metropolitan and indigenous elections.
