This free CLE for Minnesota attorneys cover the use of social media as evidence in court. Participants will be able to understand how this unique, emergent form of evidence can be used for civil litigation and e-discovery; discover how law enforcement is using social media in criminal cases and how criminal defense attorneys can use it to defend clients; see social media evidence recovered from smart phones, personal computers, and the cloud; and learn the ethics of social media evidence collection, including the application of professional responsibility rules and bar association opinions explaining what you can and cannot do.

Speaker: 
John Carney, Esq. is Chief Technology Officer and lead digital forensic examiner at Carney Forensics where he has been assisting clients with electronic and mobile device evidence for the past eleven years as an expert witness. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned his JD at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He is a federally and state licensed attorney in Minnesota.
