This is a unique experience designed to empower volunteers to better assist families living in poverty. The
Pro Bono Center and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host a Poverty Simulation at which participants will assume roles in various families with low incomes struggling to survive from week to week. They will be given "play" money and fictional scenarios, and then they must navigate through four 20-minute "weeks," balancing and negotiating the basic needs of daily life: food, housing, energy, employment, child-care, transportation, doctor visits, emergencies, etc. This program is free for all volunteers and staff of Pro Bono Center members and organizations. The number of participants is limited to 80 participants.
