Volunteer Advocates for Immigrant Justice (VAIJ), with the
Tacoma Immigration Court and the Office of Chief Counsel of Immigration and
Customs Enforcement will be presenting a Model Hearing Program (MHP) at
the Immigration Court at the NW Detention Center in Tacoma. The
Model Hearing Program was developed by EOIR as a training tool for pro bono
attorneys and new practitioners appearing before the Immigration Court. An
Immigration Judge from the Tacoma Immigration Court and an attorney from the
Office of Chief Counsel will participate in the training.
This training will present a case involving a client who has both mental health issues
and an asylum claim which would be based on both the past persecution he had
endured and the future persecution he would face if returned to his country
with mental illness.
Note: Attendance at the training is capped at 35 people, as
