- Cover the basic components of a stairway system, such as; risers, treads, stringers, handrails, newel posts, balusters, lighting
- Identify the building code related requirements with respect to the proper construction and placement of all of the above components
- Provide examples of some poorly constructed and poorly maintained stairways
- Review the ANSI and/or ASTM standards relative to safe walking surfaces, including single steps
- Provide examples of some poorly built ramps and single steps that go against codes and standards.
