April 3/Cleveland: Crusader for the 18th Amendment: Wayne B. Wheeler, Temperance and the Volstead Act

Wayne Bidwell Wheller, American prohibitionist and lawyer, earned his LLB from Western Reserve University in 1989. From Temperance work, he went on to lead the Anti-Saloon League, pioneering the idea of presssure politics and inventing the modern political lobby.
As attorney for the League, Wheeler was prominent in the fight for prohibition legislation, notibably the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution.
