The Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia (PILCOP) collaborates with law firms in the city to represent students with disabilities in the School District of Philadelphia, and occasionally other districts. Representations principally focus on obtaining necessary and mandated special education programming, instruction, or resources for disabled students. Involvement can vary from simply writing letters to clarify services, to appearing and taking testimony in administrative hearings, to fully litigating class action cases in federal district court. This session will present an introduction to the law, procedures, and practicalities of representing students with special needs
