"Volunteer attorneys are eligible for one of three (3) free slots in exchange for accepting a pro bono case referral from a recognized pro bono legal services program. Staff legal services attorneys (e.g., public defenders, prosecutors, Legal Aid Bureau, Public Justice Center, House of Ruth, etc.) may also register for one of three (3) discounted slots offered at 50% off the regular course cost. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.To receive a free or discounted slot, volunteers and staff lawyers should register through the Pro Bono Resource Center by calling 410-837-9379; 800-396-1274; emailing Kiah Elmore atkelmore@probonomd.org; or downloading the below registration forms.Volunteer attorneys who want a free slot should complete the MSBA Order Form and the Pro Bono Attorney Training Registration Form. "Western District of Wisconsin Chief Judge Conley, Chief Probation Officer Kent Hanson and Assistant Deputy Chief Probation Officer Paul Reed will present a free CLE at Noon on Friday, June 24, 2011 on the court’s new Court Intervention Program. The presentation will occur in the conference room on the first floor of the same building as the Federal Defender offices, 222 West Washington Avenue, Madison. The Court Intervention Program is similar to what some jurisdictions are referring to as a “Reentry Court” or “Drug Court” for people on federal supervision.

This complimentary CLE seminar will provide training for attorneys to volunteer to assist low income individuals with state tax issues. Once an attorney completes the CLE, The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland may refer cases to the attorney through the Volunteer Lawyers Program. Participation in the Volunteer Lawyers Program provides a great opportunity to gain valuable legal experience. Legal Aid provides mentoring and malpractice insurance for cases referred through its programs. Legal Aid’s service area includes Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties.

| The Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Defense Program (Fundamentals) is an additional one-day program offered during the Winning Strategies Seminar. It will take place on Thursday, June 9, 2011. Specifically designed for criminal defense attorneys who are new to the CJA panel, it will offer sessions on topics that every new practitioner should master. After participating in the Fundamentals, attorneys are encouraged to participate in the remaining Winning Strategies sessions which continue on Friday and Saturday.Participants must register for the Winning Strategies Seminar and the Fundamentals separately. |
