June 10/Minneapolis, MN - #Intellectual_Property: Beyond the Basics

Kinney & Lange announces
"Kinney & Lange invites you to its 24th seminar surveying intellectual property law on June 10, 2011, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This free seminar, tailored for in-house counsel and business lawyers, covers intellectual property issues affecting the rights, obligations and competitive strategies of businesses. The seminar combines lectures covering substantive legal topics and case law updates in the context of practical business considerations.

Based on the success of our 2010 seminar, this year's seminar once again presents Intellectual Property: Beyond the Basics, a more advanced program than some of our previous offerings. We expect this seminar will be of particular interest to in-house counsel and business lawyers who regularly encounter intellectual property law issues.

Last year, attendees received 5.5 CLE credits in Minnesota and 7.0 CLE credits in Wisconsin. We expect similar credits for this year's seminar. Half-day credits are available for attending the morning or afternoon portion. Attendees will receive a bound, twenty-second edition of Kinney & Lange’s "Overview of Intellectual Property For Business Lawyers." In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to order an expanded edition of Kinney & Lange's "Intellectual Property Law For Business Lawyers." The text, published by Thomson West, offers in-depth explanations of most facets of intellectual property law, including not only patents, trademarks and copyrights, but also trade secrets, advertising, the right of publicity, and foreign intellectual property rights.

Kinney & Lange’s seminar educates the legal community about intellectual property law issues and provides a service to the legal community as a "thank you" for our success over the years. We first presented the seminar in Minneapolis in 1984. As we planned our first half-day seminar, we hoped 50 to 75 people would attend. We were pleasantly surprised to receive over 400 registrations. With each subsequent seminar, we expected the seminar’s novelty to diminish. However, the seminar has always received an enthusiastic response, as thousands of people have attended our seminars over the years.

We are pleased and proud to share our expertise with communities that have fostered our success over the years. We hope you will attend our seminar in 2011."

About the Project
At the Fair Debt Collection Lawyer for the Day project, volunteer attorneys assist low-income debtors and creditors on Wednesdays at the Boston Municipal Court in the Brooke Courthouse on a Limited Assistance Representation (LAR) basis. LAR means that the attorney only represents the client in the proceeding (case management conference, motion, etc.) before the court that day. The representation begins and ends on the same day. The project is a joint effort of the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Senior Partners for Justice, and the Litigation Section of the Boston Bar Association.
This project offers attorney a unique opportunity to get courtroom experience in a supportive and collegial environment. Because representation is limited to one day, it is also a good project for busy attorneys who want to help but have limited time. For all, this project is a great way to meet and network with other attorneys.

It is touted by some as an inventive new way to increase court access to individuals and small companies that do not possess the resources to shoulder the burden of litigation. It is derided by others as a commercialization of litigation that should be banned because it is an unethical device that can further choke the nation’s dockets. Like it or not, it has made its way from Australia to England to the U.S.A.

Litigation financing is the subject of a complimentary martindale.com ® Connected webinar whose faculty have prepared insightful and thought-provoking presentations for in-house counsel, corporate executives and law firms. Following the formal presentations the speakers will answer your questions – so please come prepared!

May 12/Web - Bensen & Myers’ Best Practices for Litigation Management Budgeting Tools, Settlement Strategies, and Solving Ethical Dilemmas

Complimentary LexisNexis® Webinar on Bensen & Myers’ Best Practices for Litigation Management Budgeting Tools, Settlement Strategies, and Solving Ethical Dilemmas
Thursday, May 12, 2011
2:00 PM - 4:15 PM (Americas) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Corporations seek predictability. CEOs demand intelligently formed strategic plans based on thorough assessment of the market, reliable data and innovation. CEOs also expect flawless and ethical execution by well-trained and developed teams, using methods that keep costs under control or, better yet, reduce them. But litigation often brings unforeseen turbulence that that sends those plans into a tailspin. And for most large corporations litigation is a part of their daily existence. Can the rules of running a business be applied to litigation itself? Are there methods of adding a level of predictability to the process? How can litigation teams be trained and developed? How can costs be controlled, reduced or avoided?

LexisNexis will host a panel featuring two experienced litigators and authors, along with an expert on Legal Process Outsourcing to provide you with guidance and insights on these issues during the complimentary webinar “Bensen & Myers’ Best Practices for Litigation Management - Budgeting Tools, Settlement Strategies, and Solving Ethical Dilemmas.” The webinar is scheduled on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time.

Designed for in-house counsel and law firms alike, the webinar will address these topics followed by answers to your questions:
  • Litigation Budgets: Starting an Engagement on the Right Foot with a Budget and Management Protocol
  • Litigation Budgets as a Financial Tool
  • Litigation Budgets as a Management Tool
  • Determining the right size for the litigation team
  • Legal Process Outsourcing: Benefits and Challenges Regarding Budgets
  • Understanding Fed. R. Civ. P. 26 and Complying with Disclosure Obligations Ethically
  • Properly Withholding Material From Disclosure: An examination of Model Rules 1.6, 1.13 and 1.18
  • Waiver of Privilege or Work Product Protection
  • Training Junior Associates in Best Practices
  • Attorney-Client Privilege and Confidentiality
Appearing on the panel will be: Rebecca Kelder Myers, Esq. of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP in New York, Eric Bensen, Esq., Author & Consultant in New York and Jeffrey Teso of CPA Global North America, LLC.

The seminar draws on the work of author Dr. Peggy McIntosh, who writes, "I feel that seeing privilege is the missing link between understanding discrimination of any kind and how to end it. I now believe that white privilege, rather than discrimination, is the central actor in racism."

PHILADELPHIA (March 21, 2011) - Philadelphia personal injury attorneys from the law firm of Feldman Shepherd Wohlgelernter Tanner Weinstock & Dodig LLP will present a free continuing legal education (CLE) program, “Creative Lawyering from Settlement to Verdict,” on April 27, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. including breakfast and lunch at the Bell Atlantic Building, Top of the Tower in Philadelphia.

Presented by Feldman Shepherd in association with The Legal Intelligencer, the free, four-credit CLE (including one ethics credit) will cover a broad range of trial topics including a review of how “no-liability” personal injury cases were turned into seven- and eight-figure recoveries; tips and strategies to make the most of catastrophic cases; new methods to improve deposition and discovery skills; creative investigation, negotiation, trial and advocacy techniques; effective use of technology in the courtroom; and the effects of social media on litigation and the practice of law. Fox Rothschild Co-Chair Abraham C. Reich will also address ethics matters during the program. Seats are limited and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
