Sep 29/ Making a Difference: Mentoring New Lawyers

Kateri Walsh, of the Oregon State Bar's New Lawyer Mentoring Program, writes:
"Dear colleagues: As you may be aware, the Oregon Supreme Court has recently made participation in a one-year mentoring program a requirement for all new members, commencing in 2011. Making the program mandatory assures that every new lawyer in Oregon can benefit from a meaningful relationship with an experienced practitioner. It also will require the commitment and guidance of a significant number of experienced lawyers to make the impact we all envision for the program.
As part of our effort to assure success, and to offer something back to our volunteers (or even potential volunteers) we have put together a free CLE program, which will include 1.25 Ethics .75 Access to Justice, and 1.25 General MCLE credits. The program will be held Thursday September 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the OSB Center in Tigard.
Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz, an early champion of the mentoring mission, will be on hand to welcome participants and talk about the difference that mentoring can make not only to our new colleagues, but to the healthy and vitality of the full bar. Among several other topics are Ethics Hot Spots, and Effective Mentoring, among others.
