Other Jurisdictions:
The hosts have not applied for CLE credit. This appears not to be because they have an adverse opinion as to its suitability for CLE credit, but because they're addressing an academic audience and don't need to go through the hassle and expense of applying for credit.
As a result, attorneys will have to go to the effort of applying for credit on their own. This appears to me to be a reasonable approach; let those of us who want the credit, apply for the credit. Either way, the educational value of the experience is unchanged.
Topic:
This course provides an overview of the changes that are occurring in the practice of law today, especially with respect to technology.
Structure:
The TDLP series runs for one hour a week for nine weeks and will feature a different guest speaker each week. Each class will be delivered via webcast and will have a 30 minute lecture presentation followed by a question & answer period and an online, interactive homework assignment for all course students to complete. IMO this interactivity offers an exceptional educational value; how often have you wanted to hang around after a CLE and talk things over with the other participants, but didn't because you had to rush off to some other business!
Access:
The audience for this seminar is primarily law students and law faculty who will be given priority. Anyone else can join the course for one or all of the sessions. The presentations will be recorded and posted to the course blog.
Cost:
Free.

When The Feds Knock On Your Door - On-Demand CLE

Jacqueline Arango
Akerman Senterfitt
Companies in all industries are facing increased investigation activity and criminal prosecution in areas ranging from health care fraud to public and private corruption, false claims act cases oftentimes initiated by whistleblower complaints, and money laundering.
Increased enforcement scrutiny and a much tighter operating environment intolerant of corporate wrongdoing present continuing problems for in-house counsel. Compliance policies and practices, as well as self-policing can take the sting out and lessen liability.
Trial lawyer Jacqui Arango shares best practices for operating in this increasingly anti-business environment and handling federal agents and prosecutors bent on attacking your company.

Mar 19/Web - Ethics Essentials for Successful Online Legal Marketing

Are you shying away from online marketing and social media out of fear of violating ethics guidelines?

According to the ABA
The Rules of Professional Conduct of your state bar aren’t a marketing obstacle — they’re actually a helpful guide to showcasing the professionalism of your firm and attracting more quality clients.
Learn how to develop legal ethics best practices that will empower your online marketing during this complimentary (to ABA members) 90-minute webinar presented by Larry Bodine, senior director and editor in chief of Lawyers.com(SM). In this session we’ll focus on compliance with Rules of Professional Conduct in the following areas:

o  Web Presence: Key design and content decisions for law firm websites and search engine optimization (SEO)
o  Joining the Conversation: How to participate in social media – LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
o  Thought Leadership: Blogging best practices and pitfalls to beware
o  Customer Validation: Guidance for online use of testimonials and case histories
o  Showcasing Achievements: Considerations for promoting your ratings and rankings

Benefit from real-world examples of law firms that are using these essential practices successfully, as you learn how to apply them to your own marketing strategy. We’ll also share examples of law firm marketing on the Web that violates ethics rules, and how to avoid repeating them.

Uncertainty and indecision about professional responsibility can hinder your ability to effectively market your firm and generate new business. Attend this webinar to help make ethics compliance an asset — and ensure your online marketing is in harmony with the latest best practices.

Feb 28/Web - A Better Way to Do Business: The Competitive Advantages of Online Client Collaboration for Law Firms

In the 2011 ABA Legal Technology Survey Report the American Bar Association reported that 72 percent of large law firms today offer clients access to a secure client portal to interact and transact business online. However, only 6.4 percent of smaller firms are using client extranets to service their clients. Why the disparity?
This session will explore:
• Findings from the 2011 ABA Legal Technology Survey
• Surface professional responsibility and ethical concerns with using online tools
• Review real-world examples of how your firm can use extranets and online tools to securely and efficiently collaborate with clients
• Discuss the latest technologies for establishing an online portal to dramatically improve client communications.
Finally, we’ll discuss how online collaboration tools can become a strategic asset differentiating your firm from your competitors. With this program, you can learn how to make your website more than an online brochure by adding services that can include document sharing,  case status updates, scheduling/calendaring, and more.
