November 1+2: Seattle - Volunteer Attorney Training for Survivors of Human Trafficking in Washington State #probono #MCLE

The purpose of this program is to train Washington State attorneys with the specialized knowledge and skills required to assist survivors effectively with their legal needs, either as staff attorneys for legal services programs or as pro bono volunteers, organized through IRC in Seattle/WARN.  Law students will be admitted so they may fill volunteer clerical roles and prepare the next generation of attorneys for service.

  • Understanding the Legal Framework &Landscape of US Citizen and Foreign National Survivors of Human Trafficking;
  • Identifying Trafficked Persons; Practical Legal Guidance on Serving Trafficking Survivors:
  • Ethical Considerations & Working with Case Managers
  • Criminal Victim Advocacy: Reporting to Law Enforcement & Victim's Right to Counsel;
  • Family Law Issues

Content and instructors for this program are provided through a grant to CAST and LAFLA from the US Department of Justice for training attorneys to serve human trafficking survivors with their legal needs.

This is a training for lawyers intending to provide pro bono services. Attendees are asked to commit to providing legal services on one case within the next year with support and technical assistance from IRC in Seattle/WARN, CAST and LAFLA
