June 25: Minnesota Supreme Court Attorney Discipline — Inside the Process (with ethics credit)

Title:
Minnesota Supreme Court Attorney Discipline — Inside the Process

Description:
This session offers a rare, behind‑the‑scenes look at how attorney discipline cases reach the Minnesota Supreme Court. While many attorneys see only the published opinions, the full process involves multiple stakeholders, investigative steps, and procedural safeguards that shape each outcome.

With insight from Justice Gordon Moore, III, and leaders from the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility and the private bar, this program will explore:

  • The Minnesota Supreme Court’s original jurisdiction over attorney discipline
  • The roles of investigators, the Director’s Office, and the Court
  • How precedents guide discipline decisions
  • The complaint handling and investigation process
  • How cases move through the discipline system
  • Practical advice for lawyers responding to a complaint

Designed to help attorneys understand an unfamiliar and often stressful process, this session also provides an opportunity to earn last‑minute ethics credit.
