Kobre & Kim LLP
Partner

Matthew I. Menchel, partner of Kobre & Kim LLP, is a highly regarded and experienced trial lawyer who has served as lead counsel in numerous high-profile white-collar criminal and complex civil trials. Recently Mr. Menchel represented Pankesh Patel in the highly-publicized, eight week long trial of the FCPA “Shot Show” sting operation, the largest U.S. prosecution of individuals accused of foreign bribery to date. Mr. Menchel’s bold decision to call and vigorously examine the government’s lead case agent as part of his defense was widely considered to be the turning point of the trial which resulted in a hung jury and also a key factor in the Department of Justice’s decision to later dismiss the indictment against all remaining defendants.
Prior to joining Kobre & Kim LLP, Mr. Menchel served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney as well as the former Chief of the Criminal Division for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney's Office, during which he trained numerous Assistant District Attorneys in trial advocacy as a Director of Legal Training.
