August 14: Trade War with China and Emerging Technology Export Controls

The United States and China are locked in an epic trade battle. The U.S. Administration is using the full range of tools in its arsenal, including a 25% tariff on Chinese imports, unfair trade practice investigations for certain industries, adding companies to the export ban list, a ban on procurement of Chinese IT by federal contractors, pending export controls relating to emerging technologies such as AI, robotics and big data, and an Executive Order that provides a basis for import bans and further restrictions.
Melissa Duffy, a partner in Dechert’s Washington office who focuses on international trade matters, will discuss recent developments in U.S.-China trade war, with a particular focus on tariffs and emerging technology export controls. We will discuss practical steps companies can take to ensure compliance with these new requirements, engage with regulators, protect their supply chains, and cope with an ever changing and escalating political situation.
