September 28: Combating Structural Racism: Organizational Equity Change

In 2020, our Washington Supreme Court called on the legal community to address the racial injustice that has for so long and continues to plague our country. Heeding the Court's call to action, we are offering a series of Legal Lunchbox CLEs focused on racial injustice. In March 2020, we began the conversation by giving an overview of structural racism in the law and how it impacts various client communities. In June 2020, we focused on how individuals can practice relationship- building and the shifting of power to begin to combat systemic racism.
This September, Ada Shen-Jaffe (JustLead WA), SaNni Lemonidis (Lemonidis Consulting and Law Group), and Jaelynn Scott (Lavender Rights Project) will present as we focus on organizational change. Various leaders of legal organizations will discuss different dimensions of equity work and how they intersect, how to and what they are doing to effect change at an organizational level including instituting combating racial bias and having more cultural humility amongst leaders, and centering the voices of client communities most impacted by racism while making organizational change.
