July 11: The Intersection of Cannabis and Corporate Law: Navigating Complex Federal and State Laws

The unceasingly evolving field of cannabis continues to bring complex regulatory challenges among businesses and legal practitioners. Although still illegal under federal law, several states and territories in the US have already legalized the use of cannabis for both medical and recreational purposes. In April 2022, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act. If passed by the Senate, the MORE Act would abolish criminal penalties for federal cannabis offenses, decriminalize cannabis at the federal level, and expunge past federal cannabis convictions.
Cannabis businesses and legal practitioners must keep themselves updated on any developments in this field to navigate the ever-changing regulatory paradigm of the cannabis market and avoid legal pitfalls.
Listen as experienced cannabis consultants and lawyers Whitney Hodges (Sheppard Mullin) and Shay Aaron Gilmore (The Law Office of Shay Aaron Gilmore) provide the audience with a comprehensive discussion of the current regulatory developments in the cannabis industry as well as the surrounding issues that legal practitioners should be wary of. Speakers, among other things, will offer practical tips and strategies to navigate this rapidly evolving legal climate.
Key topics include:
  • Cannabis: Recent Regulatory Trends and Developments
  • Status of Cannabis Legalization Under State and Federal Laws
  • Common Challenges Faced by Legal Practitioners
  • Practical Tips to Navigate Complexities
  • What Lies Ahead.
