August 24: Public Photography and the Law: A Look at First Amendment Audits

Increasing numbers of people are filming police activity including police misconduct. Some people film because they happen upon police activity. Other people, known as First Amendment auditors, actively seek to film the police and other public (and private) officials to educate the public that photography in public is not a crime.
In this basic CLE presentation, we will discuss First Amendment audits and the law. Topics include:
  1. whether it is legal to film public officials (including police officers) and private people in public and if there are any limits;
  2.  what causes of action First Amendment auditors have if they are wrongfully arrested;
  3.  under what conditions might such arrests be lawful;
  4.  how to respond if YOU are the subject of a first amendment audit.
Join Jonathan Grad of Extra Mile Law, PLLC for this fast-moving, basic class about public photography and the First Amendment.
