July 19: Privacy By Design: Considerations for Products, Transactions, and Vendor Management

Privacy by design—the notion that organizations should consider data privacy at each stage of product development and across business practices—has been advocated by the Federal Trade Commission and other privacy regulators for quite some time. But what does this concept mean in practice for attorneys who represent companies that rely on rapid innovation and the constant collection, use, and sharing of personal data? And how does it fit into a business environment where companies are dependent on a multitude of third-party service providers, suppliers, and other contractors to carry out their day-to-day operations?
This extended, 90-minute panel, intended for Chief Legal Officers, Outside Counsel, and other professionals who manage corporate privacy and cybersecurity risk, will provide a practical view into the application of privacy by design principles by attorneys, privacy engineers, and compliance professionals. Panelists will provide guidance on incorporating privacy by design principles into product development initiatives, transactional risk assessments, and vendor management programs.
Learning objectives include:
  • Gain practitioner insights on applying privacy by design principles early on in a manner that allows for scaling and modification of organizational privacy programs against a backdrop of evolving laws and regulations
  • Study practitioner techniques for identifying and managing privacy and cybersecurity risks in commercial contracts through pre-transaction risk assessments
  • Obtain insights on the negotiation of enterprise cloud arrangements from the perspective of a service provider
  • Learn about key components of vendor management programs to help ensure the consistent application of privacy and data security controls across outsourced services
Who would benefit most from attending this program?
  • In-house and law firm counsel who advise on digital product development or negotiate commercial transactions that carry privacy and cybersecurity risks
  • Privacy and information technology professionals who advise on organizational data management and information security protocol
  • Compliance professionals who draft and administer organizational privacy and data security policies and procedures.
