August 4: Power Act CLE & Networking Reception (in-person and on-line)

Each year to commemorate the enactment of the Power Act, Arkansas Access to Justice in conjunction with the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas organizes a CLE that centers around pro bono representation for survivors of domestic violence.
The Power Act was first introduced in 2017 and was signed into law on September 4, 2018 (Public Law No. 115-237). The purpose of the act is to raise awareness on domestic violence and to empower survivors through effective pro bono representation.
Amongst this year’s distinguished speakers are U.S. District Judge Brian Miller, Associate Justice Rhonda Wood, Judge Amy Dunn Johnson, Judge Karen Whately, and Attorney Jennifer Stone. Please view a full copy of our schedule right below.
This year’s CLE offers 2 hours of CLE credit, a networking reception, and a tabling event for pro bono organizations. It starts 1:30 P.M. with remarks by U.S. Magistrate Judge Joe Volpe, followed by a presentation on orders of protection and a panel that explores how judges review domestic violence cases. Attendees should expect to learn about:
  • Rights of Domestic Violence Victims
