Jan 10/Minneapolis - #Nonviolent Peacekeeping - An ADR Model Worth Emulating

The MSBA's ADR Section Presents

"Nonviolent Peacekeeping - An ADR Model Worth Emulating"
Free to members of the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a global leader in the innovative practice of unarmed civilian peacekeeping. NP was founded in 2002 with a mission to promote, develop and implement unarmed civilian peacekeeping as a tool for reducing violence and protecting civilians in situations of violent conflict. One year later, in 2003, NP had its first team on the ground in Sri Lanka.
At the request of local civil society, NP’s trained, professional peacekeepers come to live and work amidst vulnerable populations affected by violence. Visibly neutral and nonpartisan, NP peacekeepers provide direct protection to those most at risk of violence and human rights abuses. They create spaces for people in conflict to communicate, convene, rekindle dialogue, and work toward sustainable solutions. Peacekeepers act both as catalysts and safeguards for violence reduction, and work with communities to build the confidence and ability to deter, de-escalate and prevent violence.
On the global stage, NP advocates for adoption of unarmed, nonmilitary solutions to conflicts that are all too often handled by military means.
