This CLE explores the legal structures of Bhutan, including the Royal Court of Justice’s mission and objectives to safeguard the sovereignty and to maintain peace in the Kingdom of Bhutan by rendering effective justice.
Attorney Patricia Paul will discuss the Kingdom of Bhutan’s political philosophy of Gross National Happiness, which seeks to balance material progress with spiritual well-being and the national policy to promote happiness in society. She will also cover the jurisdiction of the High Court, which extends to the whole of Bhutan and includes original jurisdiction over cases arising out of international treaties, conventions and covenants.
