October 30: The Supreme Court 2020-2021 term: Trends, Transitions and Key Business Cases to Watch

This program will feature insights into the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2020-2021 term, given the recent passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; the Court’s key business-related decisions in 2019 and 2020; and the pending business, environmental and regulatory cases on the Court’s docket.

This program is presumptively approved for 1.0 CLE credit in California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. Applications for CLE credit will be filed in Delaware, Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Attendees who are licensed in other jurisdictions will receive a uniform certificate of attendance but Reed Smith only provides credit for the states listed.

  • James C. Martin, Partner, Reed Smith, has specialized in appellate law for more than 35 years. He is certified as a specialist in the area of Appellate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Jim is a fellow and former president of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is a member and former president of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers.
  • Jennifer A. Smokelin, Partner, Reed Smith is a bright, energetic thought-leader on environmental and emerging energy issues, greenhouse gas legislation, and related environmental issues, with a particular experience in Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic, California, and the European Union. Jennifer represents clients in a broad range of environmental and energy issues, including environmental civil enforcement and litigation matters, as well as regulatory and transactional issues for energy and manufacturing companies. Her practice focuses on all aspects of regulatory and litigation counseling in the fields of environmental, natural resource, and energy law, with a particular emphasis on emerging air issues. She draws upon her experience in business and engineering to incorporate regulatory compliance into sound business strategies.
