June 30: Cyber War and Terrorism

“Traditional” risks implicated by cyber insurance policies can also result from nation-state and terroristic attacks. Recent events have seen growing tensions between western countries and nation states, highlighting the growing risk of cyberattacks. Most cyber policies contain broad war exclusions; some are silent on terrorism; others contain terrorism exclusions; only a few affirmatively grant terrorism coverage.
This panel will discuss
  • The challenges of territorial consideration,
  • Nation-state sponsored attacks
  • Challenges in attribution
  • What can/should be covered and what cannot/should not
  • Is it possible to create backstops for a cyber event for which we cannot imagine or insure.
