August 25: Expert Qualifications and Designations

When picking an expert, what's better:
(A.) deep, specialized industry experience, but little or no experience with litigation or testimony; or
(B.) technically qualified but less specialized, with significant litigation and testimony experience?
Everyone experienced in litigation knows that some of the "most qualified" experts fold like a lawn chair when pressed by a skilled opposing attorney. So, what is the answer?
Finding, vetting, selecting, hiring, and managing experts with the right combination of knowledge, skill, experience, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people, so that the audience can make informed and intelligent decisions is difficult, but not impossible. This program is a one-hour overview that will shine a light on the process, and describe best practices for thinking through the expert qualifications you'll need for your case, choosing the right experts, writing expert designations, coordinating multiple experts, and setting those experts up for success.
Anyone who hires and manages expert witnesses in litigation to support their case will benefit from this program. Like many things in life and business, success is the combination of a simple system and then exercising the appropriate diligence (AKA elbow grease).
