September 13: Watergate Recalled: The Minnesota Connections

Marking the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in and ensuing scandal that changed American politics, Twin Cities attorney and historian Marshall Tanick will give a presentation about the connections between Watergate and Minnesota, legal and otherwise, and why the western suburbs here were Ground Zero for Watergate. The course will also review some of the Watergate-related civil and criminal cases that took place in Minnesota and were shaped by Watergate and surrounding events, including political contribution cases involving individuals and businesses; Watergate's effect on statutes such as origination of the Government Data Practices Act; as well as ethical issues stemming from Watergate and changes in professional responsibility rules for lawyers.
