Intersectionality is a framework that helps describe how different forms of discrimination intersect with and inform one another. This seminar will briefly review the original 1989 article by Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, who developed intersectionality as a legal framework in her review of employment discrimination cases against Black women. Then, Robert Foss (he/him), and Ikál Nico Quintana (he/they) will describe how this framework guides the delivery of legal services to Latino/a/e/x and BIPOC LGBTQIA2S+ communities in Washington state today. Both speakers will offer ways that all legal professionals can strengthen their practice by taking an intersectional approach to serving clients and supporting community-led systemic advocacy.
