This lecture will explore the history of the Fair Labor Standards Act, its basic enforcement mechanisms, and the heightened importance of the law in the current U.S. economic climate.  The lecture will also address potential threats to its continued viability.

Speaker:
Jason R. Bristol is an advocate for working people. Law and Politics Magazine has described him as a “Rising Star” in plaintiffs’ employment litigation. Handling class and collective actions under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and various state laws, he has recovered millions of dollars in unpaid wages and overtime compensation for workers across the United States. His cases have received coverage in the Wall Street Journal and in broadcasts ranging from America’s Workforce Radio to Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life. He lectures widely and publishes articles on employment-related issues, and is as an Adjunct Professor at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he teaches courses on the Fair Labor Standards Act and appellate advocacy.
